Modern Warfare 3 Recommended Parts

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

If you have yet to play one of the most popular first person shooter series available on the PC, I highly recommend you do so. Since its introduction in 2003, the Call of Duty series has gained fans and critical acclaim ever since. The latest edition, Call of Duty: Black Ops, is no exception. Featuring exceptional visuals, addictive gameplay, and an excellent multiplayer experience to boot, Black Ops raises the already very high bar the series has set for itself. With the latest release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (often abbreviated as MW3) only a few months away (11-8-2011), you want to be sure your computer isn't going to detract from your gaming experience. This guide lists the best components designed to handle Call of Duty: MW3 with ease so you can enjoy all the game has to offer. Also be sure to check out our MW3 multiplayer tips in this article.

Projected Requirements

The projected hardware requirements found here, are as follows: 3GB of memory, 12GB of available hard drive space, a Pentium Dual Core E5500 or AMD Phenom II X2 550 CPU, and an NVIDIA GT340 or ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series video card. Please note that these are projected and are not official.

The suggested CPU is a Pentium dual core E5500 or an AMD Phenom II X2 550. I would definitely suggest getting a more modern CPU, such as a quad core, as this is very important in the overall computer performance.

The required memory for the game is listed as 3 GB, however, with the memory prices as low as they currently are, I'd suggest using 4 GB of DDR3 memory. Having extra available memory for the computer is always a good idea.

A GeForce GT340 or an ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series video card is recommended but I would look for an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 or a Radeon HD 6000 Series card. You definitely want to be prepared for all the visual treats the game is going to feature and don't shortchange yourself in the video card and miss out on any of it.

With a presumed storage capacity requirement of 12GB, you will want at least 20GB of free space before you install the game. Also, be sure to defragment the hard drive before installing the game, this will help with overall computer speed as well. With the projected hardware requirements listed, lets find some components that are worthy of Modern Warfare 3.

Recommended CPU

For starters, the processor needs to be very fast to enjoy all the game has to offer. I suggest the Intel Core i7 2600K CPUicon. It will handle all the tasks thrown at it with ease and all the while still remaining at a cool operating temperature. Another viable option is the AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition CPUicon. If price is a concern, you can save some money going the AMD CPU route. Both are excellent processors and a great choice for Modern Warfare 3.

Recommended Memory

With the 3GB RAM requirement, I recommend using, at the minimum, two sticks of 2GB (for a total of 4GB) DDR3 memory for dual channel performance. Memory prices are very low at the time of this writing and you can never go wrong have too much memory. This Corsair 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 RAMicon is an excellent choice for a total of 4GB. If you have the money to spare, two sticks of 4GB each would be more than ideal such as the Corsair CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 XMS 8GB DDR3 RAMicon set.

Recommended Video Card

The Asus GeForce GTX 460 Video Cardicon from NVIDIA or an ASUS Radeon HD 6870 Video Cardicon are both excellent choices for use with Modern Warfare 3. Both cards feature 1GB of GDDR5 memory, which is critical for handling all the color, shadow, and lighting effects in MW3. Also, both cards are competitively priced right around the $150-200 range.

Hard Drive Space Requirements

Not to be overlooked is the hard drive capacity requirement. Coming in at 12GB of size, you'll want a drive with at least 20GB of free space to ensure optimum performance. Most modern hard drives have at least 500GB and the 1TB size is becoming more common. The latest technology is the Solid State Drive (SSD) however these drives are still a bit more costly than their magnetic counterparts and are not essential for enjoying Modern Warfare 3. Given more time, the SSDs will drop in price becoming much more affordable.

The Call of Duty Series has been one of the highest rated, best selling, and addictive first person shooters ever developed. With each edition released comes new features, improved graphics, and ultimately, increased hardware requirements. With the above mentioned components powering your gaming computer, you will be more than ready when Call of Duty: MW3 is released on 11-8-11. Happy gaming!
